Three children treated for rabid dog-bite

Jumotsangkha BHU: Three children, aged one, two and five years, are undergoing treatment in Jumotsangkha basic health unit (BHU), after they were bitten by a rabid dog on three different days early this month.

They will be receiving their third dose of vaccine for rabies tomorrow.
Livestock department officials had notified the BHU about the attacks that had occurred near the market.

The rabid dog had, however, died, and the livestock officials had buried it two feet deep in the ground on November 5.

The assistant clinical officer (ACO) at the BHU, Karma Wangchuk, said the rabid dog had come to Jumotsangkha from a cross border town of Assam.

“We had no vaccines in stock earlier to immediately start dosage for the bitten children,” he said. It had arrived on November 12.

“One or two days’ delay in vaccination won’t cause any harm,” he assured.
