High court sentences three youth to 12-13 years


Grand Larceny: The high court sentenced three youth, who were involved in attacking a taxi driver and robbing him off his money and car in February this year to a prison term ranging between 12 to 13 years.
The verdict of November 9 sentenced Migmar Dub, and Kinley Duba to 13 years imprisonment for armed robbery and possession of controlled substance, and Sonam Phuntsho to 12 years.  

According to the verdict, Migmar Dub and Kinley Duba were given an additional year for attacking and robbing another person, Chandrakala, of his cell phone by pointing a knife at his neck on February 14 near the Jojo’s building area. 

Thimphu district court had sentenced each of them to five years and three months imprisonment, but the Office of the Attorney General had appealed the case to the High Court. 

On February 13, the men took a Wagon R taxi from Phuentsholing to Thimphu, attacked the driver after reaching Zilukha, and robbed him off his cell phone and Nu 3,000 before driving his car away.  
They had driven the taxi to Punakha, stopped an Alto taxi on the way, stabbed the lone driver Sonam Dendup on his left arm, robbed him off Nu 6,000 and switched cars on February 14. 

The three were arrested at Olakha, Thimphu on the night of February 14.  Police recovered weapons like Samurai swords, khukuri, “Rambo” daggers and 92 tablets of N10.
