Two-three storey cap still on

Lungtenphu Helipad: Despite works and human settlement minister Yeshey Zimba during the last “Meet the Press” session clarifying that plot owners between Changjalu road and hotel Migmar near Chagjiji helipad could build below six storeys, buildings continue to be restricted between two and three storeys.

One of contractors who completed a three-storied building said he was seeking permission from the ministry of works and human settlement for another floor extension for his client.

“If we wait for them to shift the present helipad to a new location, it’ll take a long time,” he said. “To save time, I am trying to get an approval but I am not sure how they will respond.”

Similarly one of the private builders in the area, who had completed the first floor said he had requested the thromde to allow them to at least add another floor.

“But we haven’t received any response yet,” he said. “While the wait has been long it’d be very convenient for us to pay the loans if one or two additional floors were allowed.”

Thromde officials, however, said they had to abide by the rules, which prescribe they disallow construction of not more than three floors, unless the ministry of works and human settlement decided otherwise.

Works and human settlement minister Yeshey Zimba had said the helipad would be moved to another area.

“We are also waiting for the new location for the helipad to be shifted by the ministry,” he said. “Till then we cannot do anything.”
