Truck veers off road, kills driver

A 24-year-old man died on the spot when the jumbo truck he was driving veered about 200ft off road around 11:30pm on November 14 at Jalakhu. Jalakhu is about 13km away from Punakha towards Gasa.

The deceased who was from Tsirang had gone to his relatives’ place to celebrate Diwali and was on his way home to Lobesa, when the incident occurred.

Police said, people of Bali village, which is opposite to the incident spot had heard the truck falling and seen the lights of the truck. One of the villagers had then called 113 to inform the police.

The truck was not loaded. “Multiple head injuries had caused the death,” police said. Police said while the cause could be careless driving, the case is still under investigation. The body was handed over to his relatives yesterday.
